1960

When it all started.

Started by DB Thapa returned from Calcutta with the first camera he bought from the money he saved, a Mamiya Super. He started his own photo studio along with his wife Shanti Thapa, by the peepal bot in New Road which is today known as the iconic Photo Concern.

1970

Royal Photography Era

Expansion of services: Collaboration with Pakistan and Bangladesh on movie production and first users of Cinemascope

1974

Royal Coronation

Royal Stamp of the newly wed King & Queen after their coronation

1978

Sole Kodak Agent

While there were many rival photo studios, it was when Kodak appointed Photo Concern as it’s sole Nepal agent that business really took off for Photo Concern. Becoming its main agent in Kathmandu meant all other studios had to go through Photo Concern.

1980

First Photo Printing Machine

Continued to be main distributor for Kodak and purchased the first photo printing machine in Nepal

1995-96

First Digital Machine

(25 years ago 1CR Nepali rupees) In Australia and Nepal

First buyers in all of Asia

2003

TRANSITION TO DIGITALIZATION


2007

TRANSITION TO DIGITALIZATION

Bought the first digital printer and led by example in starting the digital wave. This allowed customers to enlarge and print photos with ease

  • Ms. Srijana Thapa, DB Thapa’s granddaughter joins Photo Concern

  • Mr. DB Thapa passes away

  • Ms. Srijana Thapa oversees the business as the Chairperson in 2017

  • She expands the business to multiple verticals of frame manufacturing, object printing, non-woven bags, and taking the business online
